2018

Who says being weird is a bad thing? Is ‘weird’ a negative concept? Why does it have a negative feeling than its other synonyms? The theme of my research is ‘weird’. People have an antipathy towards this word. They are afraid of standing out in a crowd. Being weird (the characteristic of not adhering to the usual patterns of behaviour) is considered to be a problem in society. As a graphic designer, when I saw this problem, I decided to research on how to visually communicate better. I am of the opinion that being weird or liking weird things makes us more special. “Different is not always better, but better is always different.” (anonymous, 2015)

This research is a discourse on the value of weirdness. I was inspired by daily objects. I found that these were the most important materials for engaging in personal development in daily life. I found that when two normal objects are randomly combined together, it does not only looking weird but also generates new functions. Following this, I started making my touch points using creative ideas and taught myself about the production process.

I researched and analysed case studies, built strategies and created the brand ‘Offbeat’ which is an innovative retail store as a final solution.
