The Colour of Korea

Zine

MA Major Project Proposal Unit

Mini Brief 5_A zine of style

2018

This zine was made during the mini brief workshops I attended on my master's course. The workshop provided an opportunity for me to explore my research for the major project proposal.

I focused on weird cultural aspects to language, words and colour. In Korea, there are multiple ways to describe colours. For example, they have 9 blacks, 4 whites, 16 blues, 7 reds, 11 yellows. This zine showed black and white in Korean is used for expressing meaning in different situations. The meaning of each word is visualised as illustrations or edited photos. The target audience of this zine is tourists who plan to visit South Korea. The zine was printed on textured paper and used Japanese bookbinding techniques.
